Police ID Driver, 23, Killed In South Brunswick Christmas Eve Morning Crash

Police have identified the 23-year-old driver killed in a crash on Route 1 in South Brunswick.

Vedant Tiru was in the left lane of Route 1 south near New Road when he lost control, slid sideways across the roadway, and struck a utility pole around 12:55 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 24, South Brunswick police said. Tiru was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Kendall Park First Aid, Kendall Park Fire Department, Middlesex County Medical Examiner, and New Jersey State Department of Transportation responded to the crash. Route 1 South was closed for several hours during the investigation.

Then, at 7:25 a.m., a Kendall Park Fire Department truck was clearing from the crash scene when it was struck by another vehicle. 

The fire truck was on New Road crossing over Route 1 when a car headed north on Route 1 failed to stop at the red light. The car and fire truck impacted in the intersection. 

There were no injuries and the 57-year-old Milltown driver was issued several summonses.
